Barcelona will not launch the offensive to sign 25-year-old Spanish midfielder Carlos Soler from Valencia in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Carlos Soler is no longer a priority target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana will look to sign Bernardo Silva to replace Frenkie de Jong, with the 25-year-old Spanish international only an alternative now.

Carlos Soler is one of the best midfielders in La Liga, with the player establishing himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park for Valencia. At the same time, Soler has become a regular fixture in the Spanish national squad and is on course to book his ticket for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

But the 25-year-old is at a crossroads in his career as he will enter the final year of his contract later this week. With talks over a renewal not progressing quickly enough, Soler might have played his 222nd and last game for Valencia. And his situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs in Europe, including Barcelona.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch international is reportedly on the verge of joining Manchester United in an initial €65 million deal, with his departure leaving a void in Barcelona’s midfield department.

So Soler had emerged on Barcelona’s radar as a viable target to replace the departing de Jong. But the Catalan giants are cooling their interest in the 25-year-old, with Bernardo Silva emerging as their priority target for the summer transfer window.

The Manchester City playmaker is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona, who will focus on bringing him to Camp Nou once de Jong’s exit is formalised. But with the pursuit of the Portuguese playmaker being complicated due to the finances involved in a potential deal, Soler will remain an alternative for Barcelona.

For now, the pursuit of Soler has taken a back seat, with Atletico Madrid likely to be in the pole position to secure his services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona will eventually go back to the Spanish international or if Bernardo Silva moves to Camp Nou from Manchester City.
