Real Madrid will not offer a new deal to Marco Asensio, who reportedly has contract proposals from Liverpool and Serie A champions AC Milan.

According to a report by Spanish outlet COPE, Marco Asensio could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with Los Blancos unlikely to offer a new deal to the Spanish forward. The player has contract proposals on his table from Liverpool and Serie A champions AC Milan.

Marco Asensio’s professional career has often promised much without the desired end product. But the 26-year-old produced his most productive campaign thus far for Real Madrid, ending the 2021/22 season with 12 goals from 42 appearances across all competitions – only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. found the back of the net more often.

So it is ironic that Asensio is on the verge of leaving Real Madrid in the summer transfer window despite being one of Los Blancos’ top scorers in the recently-concluded season. The Spanish giants are reportedly ready to cash in on the Spanish international instead of running the risk of the player running down his contract next year. Such a situation has alerted Liverpool and AC Milan, with both clubs submitting contract offers to him.

The interest from Liverpool stems from the recent departure of Sadio Mane. The Senegalese forward has joined Bayern Munich after six fruitful years with Liverpool, leaving a gaping hole in the Reds’ attacking unit. At the same time, the Merseyside giants are in a spot of bother over Mohamed Salah’s long-term future.

Asensio has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool, with the Reds reportedly in contact with his entourage. But Liverpool will need to fend off stiff competition from Serie A champions AC Milan to secure the services of the Real Madrid forward in the summer transfer window.

AC Milan will look to bolster the first-team squad in almost every department this summer to ensure Inter Milan and the rest of the chasing pack in the Italian top-flight do not catch them. The Serie A champions have thus identified Asensio as a solution for the right-wing slot, with recent reports claiming they are the front-runners to land the Real Madrid man.

As iterated earlier, Liverpool and AC Milan have tabled contract offers to Asensio, with Real Madrid unlikely to hand him a new deal. So the 26-year-old has to choose between the Premier League heavyweights and the Serie A champions as the next destination, with his time at Real Madrid reaching its end.
