Tottenham are considering a move to sign Hakan Calhanoglu, and are open to offering Davinson Sanchez or Giovani Lo Celso.

According to Calciomercatoweb.it, Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a move for Hakan Calhanoglu. They have been alerted by the playmaker’s uncertain future at Inter Milan, with coach Antonio Conte keen on snapping him up in the summer, as part of his plans to strengthen his creative unit.

Calhanoglu has found himself dominating the headlines in recent weeks following his spat with footballing superstar and former AC Milan teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The playmaker criticised the Swede for always trying to steal the limelight, though his comments were seen as frustration by many supporters after the player missed out on the Serie A title.

Calhanoglu was a part of the AC Milan side during the 2020/21 campaign when the Rossoneri finished second in the league table. They lost the title to Inter Milan, which was managed by Conte at the time. Calhanoglu, though, made the bizarre decision of jumping ship to join the Nerazzurri in an attempt to land silverware.

In an awkward turn of fate, the Turkish international ended up in the runner-up spot once again as it was Milan who finished the 2021/22 campaign as the Italian champions.

Tottenham are looking to offer Calhanoglu a lifeline by joining the Premier League side this summer. As mentioned earlier, Conte is keen on shoring up his options in the creative department, especially after facing defeat in the quest to re-sign Christian Eriksen.

Signing Calhanoglu, though, could be tricky as Inter Milan value the player at around €30 million. Instead of paying the full fee, the Lilywhites are looking to lower the cost of the operation by including one of their fringe players to the deal. Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso have emerged as the two candidates.

While Lo Celso has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, among other clubs, Sanchez could be a tempting option for Inter Milan amid uncertainty over the future of Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakian international is likely to be offloaded in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly emerging as one of the potential destinations. Inter, therefore, could fancy a move for Sanchez, who can replace Skriniar and become the ideal defensive partner for Alessandro Bastoni.

However, in light of their poor financial situation, Inter are likely to favour a cash deal rather than an exchange deal. And with that in mind, it will be a surprise to see Calhanoglu leave the club this summer.
