Real Madrid are reportedly keeping a close watch on the situation of Presnel Kimpembe, who is unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are monitoring Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, who is frustrated at the French club due to their reluctance to hand him a new contract.

Kimpembe is a product of the PSG youth academy and has been a mainstay at the heart of Les Parisiens’ defence for years now. The 26-year-old has amassed 220 appearances for the reigning Ligue 1 champions and has 28 caps for the French national team.

One of the most reliable defenders going around in Europe, Kimpembe has been a top performer for several seasons now but is feeling undervalued at PSG. His current contract with the club expires in 2024, and he is seeking improved terms from the club, which has not been forthcoming as of yet.

It has paved the way for speculations over Kimpembe’s future, with Chelsea considering a summer swoop for the centre-back to bolster their backline. Now, though, Real Madrid have also entered the fray and are understood to be keeping tabs on the 26-year-old’s situation at Parc des Princes.

Real Madrid have a well-stocked defensive roster as it is, with Eder Militao, David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez and new signing Antonio Rudiger. Carlo Ancelotti also has Jesus Vallejo at his disposal, who is keen on staying put at the Santiago Bernabeu despite interest from Espanyol.

Even though there is no immediate need for a new defender to come in at the club, Real Madrid are still keeping a close watch on Kimpembe’s situation as he is a player they admire. However, it does seem unlikely that they might consider making a move for the French international this summer.

But a move for Kimpembe in 2023 could be on the cards when he would be entering the final twelve months of his contract. By then, Real Madrid would have found a way to move Vallejo on, while Nacho will also be a year older and entering the final phase of his career. For now, though, Real Madrid are just keeping a close watch on the developments surrounding the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and his contract situation in Paris.
