La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly made peace with the idea of cashing in on 26-year-old Spanish forward Marco Asensio this summer.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Mario Cortegana, Marco Asensio’s days as a Real Madrid player may be numbered. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to offload the 26-year-old forward, who might also seek a departure from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.

Marco Asensio might be approaching the peak phase of his professional career, but he is yet to establish himself as a mainstay at Real Madrid. The Spanish international is coming off his most productive campaign as a Real Madrid player, ending 2021/22 as Los Blancos’ third-highest scorer, behind Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.

The 26-year-old found the back of the net 12 times in 42 appearances across all competitions this past season. But Asensio had to share game-time with Rodrygo Goes, who seemed to have usurped him by the end of the campaign. Such a situation has left Asensio dismayed about his prospects, with the player open to leaving Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Asensio’s contract situation has invariably left Real Madrid in a spot of bother, with his contract running out in twelve months. The Spaniard’s uncertain position has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

Recent reports have also suggested that Real Madrid might have started warming up to the idea of selling Asensio by slapping a €40 million price tag on the Spanish international. And according to Mario Cortegana, the reigning La Liga champions are now ready to cash in on the 26-year-old.

The Spanish journalist has suggested that Real Madrid will look to sell Asensio in the summer transfer window. And even if the Merengues table a contract renewal offer, it will come with a subtle message that they want to cash in on the Spaniard ahead of the 2022/23 season.

While Asensio is reportedly ready to leave Real Madrid as a free agent next year, he is aware that he has to feature prominently at a big club to be a pivotal figure for Spain at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. So all signs point to a summer departure from the Santiago Bernabeu for the 26-year-old.
