Manchester United are reportedly growing confident of completing a deal for 30-year-old Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Manchester United are growing confident about signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer. The 30-year-old Denmark international is attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs, with his six-month contract with Brentford expiring this month.

Eriksen returned to the Premier League with Brentford after missing nearly a year of action following a cardiac arrest during UEFA Euro 2020. Eriksen was an Inter Milan player back then, but his contract with the Italian club had to be terminated due to Serie A regulations.

The 30-year-old playmaker signed for Brentford in the January transfer window earlier this year and was an instant hit, helping them to a 13th-placed finish in the Premier League. Eriksen scored once and assisted four goals in 11 Premier League appearances, attracting interest from multiple clubs.

Brentford are eager to sign Eriksen to a longer deal, but there are other financially stronger suitors as well. Tottenham Hotspur were said to be interested in re-signing him, with Antonio Conte particularly fond of the playmaker, while Manchester United have been keeping tabs on him as well.

There were reports that the player wants to stay in London, effectively ruling out Manchester United from the chase and leaving Spurs and Brentford in the race. And while Tottenham were handed a boost in their pursuit of Eriksen, they have reportedly turned their attention toward other positions.

That has allowed Manchester United to re-enter the race and try to muscle out Brentford financially. They have reportedly offered much better terms to the 30-year-old playmaker, and naturally so, which has tilted the race in their favour.

The Red Devils are eager to strengthen other positions as well with a midfielder, a right-winger and a central defender on top of their priority list. Manchester United have been linked with a multitude of players since the culmination of the Premier League season but are yet to get a deal through.
