Liverpool and newly-promoted Premier League club Nottingham Forest are reportedly in talks over a move for 21-year-old defender Neco Williams.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Neco Williams is the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The newly-promoted Premier League club and Liverpool are in talks over a potential £15 million switch for the 21-year-old defender.

Neco Williams was born in Wrexham in Wales but began his footballing education at Liverpool FC, joining the English club as an eight-year-old in 2009. The Welsh international subsequently progressed through the ranks at the Merseyside club before breaking into their first-team setup in October 2019.

But the 21-year-old has since been a bit-part player for Liverpool, which is hardly surprising, considering he has had to compete with one of the game’s best full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold. As a result, Williams has managed just over 30 appearances for Liverpool, chipping in with six assists.

Williams spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Fulham, and his performances have caught the eye of several clubs. Fulham and Nottingham Forest are reportedly competing for the Liverpool defender’s signature, with the two newly-promoted Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

The interest from Nottingham Forest stems from Djed Spence’s departure following the end of his loan stint. While the Englishman will likely leave Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window, he is expected to move to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Nottingham Forest without a quality right-back.

Williams has thus emerged as a viable target for the newly-promoted club. And Nottingham Forest and Liverpool are currently locked in discussions over the 21-year-old defender’s future, with the Merseyside giants seeking around £15 million to part ways with the Welsh international in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool should happily cash in on Williams in the summer transfer window after confirming the arrival of Calvin Ramsay. But Nottingham Forest will invariably face stiff competition from Fulham in the race to sign the 21-year-old, and it will be interesting to see if they can beat their fellow newly-promoted Premier League club to his signature in the coming weeks.
