Manchester United are reportedly ready to offload Anthony Martial for around £20 million, with the Frenchman’s future at Old Trafford uncertain.

According to The Sun, Manchester United may be open to taking a massive hit on Anthony Martial, as they are ready to offload the attacker for around £20 million. The 26-year-old Frenchman has seen a dramatic dip in form over the last two years and failed to convince potential suitors after a terrible loan spell at Sevilla.

Erik ten Hag’s appointment has signalled the beginning of a new era at Manchester United, although the new manager is yet to make concrete decisions over his squad. There are plenty of things to sort out with the team, including buying new players and offloading unwanted ones.

Manchester United have important summer business to conduct and may be waiting to offload players first before bringing new ones. Eric Bailly, for instance, is pencilled for a departure, alongside others, including Anthony Martial.

In the 2019/20 season, Martial seemed to have found tremendous form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring 23 goals in all competitions. However, in the following two years at Manchester United, the French forward managed to net only eight times.

Manchester United’s readiness to allow his departure last January indicated his time at the club was up, and they might be open to a permanent sale. But unfortunately, Martial flopped during his loan spell at Sevilla, scoring just once in his time at the Andalusian club.

The Premier League giants are open to offers in the summer, and they are keen to take his wages off their books. However, Martial has two years left on his £240,000-a-week deal, making it difficult for Manchester United to attract offers for the 26-year-old forward.

Manchester United are willing to take a massive hit on their investment in the Frenchman, with the club willing to accept any offers in the region of £20 million. However, the figure is significantly lower than what they paid AS Monaco back in 2015.

Moreover, the transfer chiefs at the club are already keen on signing Antony from Ajax, with the Brazilian winger looking increasingly like a replacement for Martial. Of course, there is still plenty of work to be done by Manchester United to secure ten Hag’s former player, but it seems the Red Devils are inching closer.

As for Martial, they could ponder over an offer that is less than the £20 million mark, as Manchester United seem desperate to offload the French forward at all costs. However, if they fail to do so, ten Hag must find ways to re-integrate the 26-year-old into his plans for the 2022/23 season and hope he can be consistent.
