Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a move for Santos whizkid Angelo Gabriel, having recently contacted the player’s agent.

According to a report from Globo Esporte, Angelo Gabriel is staring at an uncertain future this summer. The 17-year-old winger has turned heads with his performances in Brazil and is currently one of the most sought-after youngsters in his country. Many expect him to soon make the move to Europe, with Newcastle United among the clubs interested in his services.

The report suggests the Premier League outfit have recently come into contact with Angelo’s agent over a potential move to St. James’ Park. The agent has opened the door for a discussion over the same, although there has been no official dialogue over the Brazilian wonderkid’s potential exit from his native Brazil.

A right-winger by trade, Angelo is considered one of the most gifted players in the country. He has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence following his promotion to Santos’s senior side at the start of last year. In just 18 months, the 17-year-old has racked up 68 competitive appearances for the club, four of which have come in the ongoing season.

Although Angelo’s return of just two goals and three assists is quite underwhelming, he has made up for his lack of productivity by offering pace, dynamism, and trickery on the flanks. His versatility in the final third has added another edge to his gameplay, with the Brazilian wonderkid being capable of operating as a left-winger if required.

Angelo’s rapid ascension has not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle United considering a move for the Brazilian. After securing top-flight status in the Premier League, the Magpies are in for a busy summer ahead as they look to strengthen their ranks and compete for the European places in the coming season.

Newcastle United are closing in on the capture of Hugo Ekitike from Reims. But with players like Miguel Almiron facing an uncertain future at the club, some reinforcements in the creative department could be necessary.

The said reinforcement might not necessarily come in the form of Angelo Gabriel, though. At the age of just 17, Santos are in no hurry to ship him off to Europe as they realize the wonderkid can yield a lucrative value if he can continue impressing in Brazil for at least another year.

Newcastle United themselves have yet to make any official attempts to sign Gabriel, whose age and lack of experience in professional football do not help in the pursuit either, especially in light of the Brexit laws that have forced English clubs to concentrate on homegrown talents rather than poaching youngsters from abroad.
