Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco in the race to sign Danilo from Palmeiras this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Danilo is the subject of interest from Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder is valued at around €25 million by Palmeiras, with Barcelona also keen on signing him.

Danilo joined Palmeiras from PFC Cajazeiras in October 2020 and has since made significant progress. The 21-year-old has been in superb form at the onset of the 2022 season, featuring 26 times for Palmeiras thus far while chipping in with six goals and two assists.

The Brazilian midfielder’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with his performances capturing the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe. Recent reports had claimed that the player’s representatives, Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci, offered him to Barcelona. And Barcelona will face stiff competition from AS Monaco in the race to sign Danilo.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the advancing years of Sergio Busquets. The Barcelona captain is in the twilight of his illustrious career, and Xavi Hernandez will have to start phasing out the veteran Spanish international sooner rather than later.

Danilo is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with recent reports claiming that the Brazilian midfielder is keen on moving to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window. But Barcelona will have to fend off stiff competition from AS Monaco to land the 21-year-old ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Ligue 1 giants will lose the services of Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer transfer window, with the French international set to join Real Madrid on July 1. And while Monaco will be flush with funds following Tchouameni’s sale, Danilo will be a cost-effective addition, as Palmeiras will demand between €20 million and €25 million to part ways with him.

The Ligue 1 giants can then invest the remaining funds to bolster their first-team squad considerably. But with Barcelona also hot on the heels of the Brazilian midfielder, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga unfolds in the coming weeks, especially with Palmeiras’s stance over selling the youngster unknown.
