Marco Asensio is reportedly in contact with Arsenal, with Manchester United also keen on signing the Spanish forward from Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Marco Asensio’s long-term future will likely be resolved next week, with Real Madrid awaiting a definitive answer from the Spanish forward by June 20. Asensio is a target for Arsenal and Manchester United, with the former establishing contact with his agent this past weekend.

Marco Asensio has shown plenty of promise since joining Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca several years ago. But a long-term knee injury stunted his progress considerably, although he did well to bounce back to some semblance of form in the 2021/22 season. However, the 26-year-old is unhappy about his situation at Real Madrid as he is not an undisputed first-choice forward.

The Spanish international amassed 12 goals and two assists in 42 outings across all competitions, playing his part in Real Madrid’s La Liga triumph. But with Asensio set to enter the final month of his contract in July, Real Madrid will be sweating over his long-term future. Such a situation has captured the attention of Manchester United and Arsenal.

Recent reports had claimed that Jorge Mendes wanted to offer Asensio to Manchester United. And the Red Devils seem interested in signing the Real Madrid forward amid their long-running right-wing woes, especially with Mason Greenwood indefinitely suspended and Jadon Sancho performing better on the left flank.

But Manchester United will not be the only Premier League bigwig vying for Asensio’s signature, with Arsenal joining the race to sign him. The interest from Arsenal stems from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Nicolas Pepe, who has become a peripheral figure for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta.

Asensio is thus a viable target for Arsenal, and the north Londoners have established contact with his representatives to explore the possibility of a summer move. Arsenal and Manchester United’s hopes of signing Asensio should be bright. But the Real Madrid forward recently hinted he could remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for one more year before departing as a free agent.
