Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing AZ Alkmaar left-back Owen Wijndal and are plotting a summer move for the 22-year-old.

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in AZ Alkmaar left-back Owen Wijndal. The north London club are plotting a summer move for the 22-year-old Dutch international, who showed great form in the recently-concluded season.

Wijndal has been with AZ Alkmaar since 2010 and was first introduced to the senior squad in the 2016/17 season. He has since grown into a crucial player and is also the club captain after taking over as the first-choice left-back from the 2019/20 season.

The 2021/22 season was highly fruitful for the defender as he provided ten assists in the Eredivisie while making 43 appearances across all competitions. Wijndal helped the club finish fifth in the league to secure a UEFA Europa Conference League spot for the next season.

In all, Wijndal has played 143 matches for the Dutch outfit, scoring four times and assisting 27 goals. The 22-year-old left-back’s output suggests that he could be a real threat going forward and that has alerted a few clubs around Europe.

The report claims that apart from Tottenham, the Dutch international is also attracting interest from clubs in France and Italy. Lyon, Napoli and Juventus are all tracking Wijndal, who still has two years remaining on his contract with AZ Alkmaar.

Tottenham have taken a step ahead of the other interested parties and are now in discussion with the Eredivisie side over a possible summer move for the defender. Antonio Conte wants to add reinforcements to the left wing-back position this summer, with Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon the only two options at his disposal. And neither has been entirely convincing under Conte

Moreover, Reguilon is linked with a summer move as the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona are showing interest in the left-back. This would leave Conte with just Sessegnon, making an addition to the spot a priority. Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan is also reportedly of interest to Tottenham, who have already completed the signings of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster this summer.
