Manchester United and Newcastle United have reportedly shown an interest in signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.

According to Belgian publication RTBF, as relayed by VoetbalKrant, Manchester United and Newcastle United could be set to battle it out for the signing of 27-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard in the summer.

Having spent the majority of his career at Belgian club KRC Genk, Trossard joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2019. The versatile attacker has grown into a vital player for the Seagulls and has been key to their survival in the Premier League in the past few seasons. He has made 104 appearances for Brighton, bagging 18 goals and 11 assists in the process.

Able to play in any position in the frontline or as an attacking midfielder, Trossard has impressed the onlookers with his versatility and ability to cause problems for the opposition defence. And as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract at Brighton, the Belgian international is attracting interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Manchester United are in the market for reinforcements in the frontline after having lost Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard. With Marcus Rashford also staring at an uncertain future and Anthony Martial expected to depart permanently, the Red Devils need to bring in some fresh faces into the attacking unit to complement the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga.

Manchester United are working to close the deal for AFC Ajax winger Antony. However, a move for Trossard would also beas he is a proven commodity in the Premier League and will provide depth across various positions in the attacking third of the pitch.

Newcastle United are also in the hunt to sign Trossard as they look to add more quality to their attacking department. The Magpies have been over-reliant on Allan Saint-Maximin for creative inspiration in the final third and that is something Eddie Howe is hoping to address in the summer by adding another player of proven quality, who can provide that X-Factor in attack.

Trossard, to that end, has emerged as a viable target. The 27-year-old showed that he can perform on the big occasions, having scored goals against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and United. And his contract situation only makes him an appealing target for Newcastle and Manchester United. It will be intriguing to see whether they firm up on their interest in the coming weeks.
