Real Madrid will reportedly face stiff competition from La Liga rivals Sevilla and Real Betis in the race to sign 22-year-old Spanish left-back Fran Garcia.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not be the only club looking to sign Fran Garcia in the summer transfer window. The Merengues face stiff competition from La Liga rivals Real Betis and Sevilla in the race to sign the 22-year-old Rayo Vallecano left-back.

Fran Garcia has found a stable footing in his professional career since joining Rayo Vallecano from Real Madrid. Los Franjirrojos initially signed the Spaniard on a loan deal for the 2020/21 season before securing his services on a permanent transfer last summer.

The 22-year-old left-back enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with one goal and one assist in 39 appearances across all competitions. Garcia’s exploits for Rayo Vallecano have not gone unnoticed either, with several La Liga heavyweights, including Real Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla, setting their sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the impending departure of veteran left-back Marcelo. The Brazilian defender recently confirmed that he would leave Real Madrid as a free agent, prompting Los Blancos to scour the market for a long-term replacement. And Garcia has emerged as a viable target, with recent reports claiming he was closing in on rejoining the Spanish giants.

Meanwhile, Real Betis might have to enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, as Alex Moreno is emerging on the radars of several clubs across Europe. Fulham recently joined the race to sign the 29-year-old, whose departure will leave the Andalusian club eyeing a replacement.

As for Sevilla, the rising uncertainties surrounding the future of Marcos Acuna have left Los Nervionenses scouring the market for a replacement. The Argentine international has popped up on the radars of several clubs across Europe, and Garcia will be an option worth considering if Acuna departs from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

While Garcia is a viable target for Sevilla and Real Betis, he recently confessed that he dreams of returning to Real Madrid one day. So it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will win the race to sign the 22-year-old Spanish left-back ahead of their La Liga rivals if they launch the offensive for him.
