Chelsea have reportedly asked Inter Milan to include Denzel Dumfries in the deal to sign Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku’s prospects of a sensational return to Chelsea are starting to gather steam lately. But Chelsea are not going to make this operation easy and have recently asked Inter Milan to include Denzel Dumfries in the proposal to sign the star striker this summer, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

Chelsea have recently given Lukaku the green light to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. It has served as a major boost for Inter, who are prepared to re-sign the striker following his departure last summer. After spending around €115 million for the striker, though, Chelsea are in no mood of letting the striker go easily.

The Blues have expressed their desire to recoup the majority of the amount they had spent on Lukaku. Knowing Inter’s financial shortcomings, though, they have demanded the inclusion of Dumfries in the deal, with the Dutch full-back rated highly by Thomas Tuchel.

With Cesar Azpilicueta subjected to a move to FC Barcelona, Tuchel believes the signing of Dumfries could be a smart investment. The Dutchman can offer competition for Reece James at right wing-back and his offensive qualities and athleticism would make him an ideal fit in the Premier League.

With five goals and five assists in his maiden season in Serie A, Dumfries has already found himself on the crosshair of both Manchester United and Bayern Munich. But Chelsea have an excellent opportunity to sign the former PSV Eindhoven star due to their leverage of Lukaku.

The Blues have expressed the desire to sign Lautaro Martinez in the swap deal as well, but Inter are less likely to entertain such a move. The Italian giants have no intention to sell the Argentine and their primary objective is to reunite him and Lukaku at Giuseppe Meazza once again, in an attempt to compete for the Scudetto next term.

However, with Lukaku likely to command a massive transfer fee, it remains to be seen how Inter plan to tackle the negotiations. A loan deal appears to be the most likely scenario, but even then, Chelsea are expected to demand a fortune as well as the remainder of the entire outlay they had spent on Lukaku, in the form of a clause.
