Inter Milan and Stefan de Vrij are ready to part ways in the summer, with Chelsea on high alert.

A recent report from FCInterNews.it has offered an update on the future of Stefan de Vrij. The experienced centre-back is all set to leave Inter Milan in the summer after being informed the club’s renewal offer could reduce his current salary.

De Vrij is not happy with the terms and has made the decision to leave the club in the summer. Inter, too, are ready to part ways with the defender, knowing his contract at the club expires at the end of next season. They are looking for a figure of around €15 million for the player, with Chelsea among the clubs interested in his services.

Since joining the club in 2018, de Vrij has been a stalwart at the back for Inter. He has made 165 competitive appearances for the club, notably helping the Nerazzurri land the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season. His defensive partnership alongside Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar is considered one of the best in Europe.

However, with de Vrij entering his thirties, Inter Milan are prepared to let go of his services. They are already on the verge of roping in Gleison Bremer from Torino. The transfer serves as a major hint in the club’s plans to offload de Vrij in the coming summer.

Given his immense success at Inter, the Dutchman should not find it difficult to attract suitors. Chelsea, for one, have identified him as the ideal man to lead the club’s defence in the new season, as the Blues prepare for life without Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and potentially Cesar Azpilicueta, amid links to Barcelona.

Stefan de Vrij offers years of experience to the table and has what it takes to make himself a brick wall at Stamford Bridge. His leadership qualities could prove to be vital as Chelsea embark on a massive defensive transition following the exit of at least two quality centre-backs.

In addition to an experienced centre-back like de Vrij, Chelsea are expected to sign another top drawer defender in the coming summer. They have targeted a move for the young and talented Josko Gvardiol, although signing the Croatian could be difficult, as he had only joined RB Leipzig last summer.
