Bayern Munich have reportedly been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane this summer.

According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Bayern Munich have made the first move in their pursuit of Sadio Mane. They have made an opening bid of around £21 million, with an additional £4 million if the Bavarians once again win the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool, though, have been swift to reject the proposal. The Premier League giants are holding out for much higher terms even though the winger’s current contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

Mane, for his part, has been quite vocal about his future lately. He has given out several hints of his desire to leave Anfield, thus putting an end to his successful spell at Liverpool that saw him score 120 goals, along with 40 assists in 269 competitive appearances.

Aside from offering productivity, Mane has helped Liverpool secure the Premier League and the Champions League title. But having largely played under the shadow of a certain Mohamed Salah, the Senegalese international now intends to build his own legacy elsewhere.

Bayern Munich have emerged as the favoured destination for the explosive forward. Having played at Red Bull Salzburg, the Liverpool winger is attracted to the brand of football played in Germany and Austria and wants to become a part of one of the strongest teams in world football, in the form of Bayern Munich.

Mane is aware of the fact that the Bavarians are set to lose Robert Lewandowski in the summer. The Pole has been linked with a move to Barcelona, with the Catalans confident of sealing the deal in the summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich have identified Mane as the ideal replacement for Lewandowski. Although the two are not like for like players, Mane’s ability to play out wide and in central areas should open up countless tactical possibilities for coach Julian Nagelsmann while making the team less reliant on a centre forward.

Liverpool, for their part, have already kick-started their preparations for life without Mane. They had targeted a move for Ousmane Dembele, but with the Barcelona winger on the verge of joining Chelsea, the Reds have set their sights on Christian Pulisic.

For the time being, though, Liverpool are expected to make life difficult for Bayern Munich, in their pursuit of Mane. Even though the winger only has a year remaining on his contract, the Bavarians will likely have to cough up more than double the amount they have offered, if they are to secure the services of the former Salzburg starlet this summer.
