Championship winners Fulham are vying against fellow promoted clubs Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest in the race for Callum Styles.

According to the Mirror, Fulham are involved in a three-way transfer race with Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest for talented Barnsley star Callum Styles in the upcoming summer.

All three clubs gained promotion to the Premier League and now face a busy summer that will see them dip into the market to boost their chances against relegation. Fulham might have blitzed through the Championship, but the Cottagers have in recent times found out that the Premier League is a whole new ball game, and it might be more important to be pragmatic than taking a gung-ho approach.

Marco Silva’s side are keeping a close watch on Styles, who continues to stand out for Barnsley. A midfielder, he can perform in the centre and out on the left with equal impact. At 22, he is primed to take the next step in his career and the opportunity to play in the Premier League hints at just that.

Styles can also perform in the No. 10 role. This will be welcome news for Fulham who are on the lookout for a player who can feed Aleksandar Mitrovic with as many goalscoring opportunities as possible. Fabio Carvalho’s move to Liverpool has been confirmed and replacing the youngster is essential. Bringing in Styles is one way of addressing it.

With Harry Wilson also in the fray, Fulham will have a young attacking lineup that could give them a fighting chance of staying up. A good passer and tackler, Styles has a fight in him. However, his inability to compete in the air could prove to be an issue especially when it comes to winning long aerial balls.

The England-born midfielder recently shifted his allegiance to Hungary. He was in the Hungarian side that stunned England earlier this week. His career is certainly on the up, and a move from the League One to the Premier League will represent that.

Barnsley endured a difficult campaign that saw them relegated to the third tier of English football. Styles was one of the few shining lights in a poor season for the club. With much interest in him this summer, it would come as a surprise should he stay put at the Oakwell Stadium.
