Real Madrid icon Marcelo is reportedly set to hold talks over a summer move to Fenerbahce after confirming that he will leave as a free agent.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Real Madrid legend Marcelo could be on his way to Fenerbahce in the summer, with manager Jorge Jesus making the Brazilian left-back one of his top priorities for the summer.

Marcelo will bring an end to his illustrious career at Real Madrid this summer when his contract runs out at the end of June. The 34-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in January 2007 from Brazilian club Fluminense and has attained legendary status at the Spanish capital outfit.

Over the past decade and a half, Marcelo has won every possible trophy with Real Madrid, collecting as many as five UEFA Champions League winner’s medals, along with four La Liga titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, and several other domestic and continental honours.

Having been named the club captain for the 2021/22 season after Sergio Ramos’ departure, Marcelo did not play much but played a role in helping the team achieve the La Liga and Champions League double. After lifting the Champions League trophy following Real Madrid’s win over Liverpool in France, the 34-year-old announced that he would be moving on in the summer.

Marcelo has shown signs of slight decline, but his experience, leadership and winning mentality would make him an asset for any club he opts to join. And, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have emerged as a potential destination for the veteran Brazilian defender.

Fenerbahce are eyeing some major moves in the transfer market after naming Jorge Jesus as their new manager. And as per the report, Marcelo is one of the Portuguese tactician’s top priorities for the summer transfer window, along with Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho, who is also a target for Fulham and Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa.

The report claims that Jorge Jesus is set to hold a meeting with Marcelo imminently to try and convince him to move to Istanbul on a Bosman deal. It is further claimed that Fenerbahce are hoping for good news on the transfer in the coming week. However, there have been reports in the media claiming that Marcelo could be joining Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille next month.

So, it remains to be seen where Marcelo ends up as he draws curtains on his glorious Real Madrid career after making 545 appearances, in which he scored 38 goals and set up 103 more.
