Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah would prefer to stay in the Premier League if he leaves the Reds next season.

The Athletic report that Mohamed Salah has his heart set on staying in the Premier League if he leaves Liverpool next season. The Egyptian confirmed that he will stay with the Reds for the upcoming season but there is little clarity over his future beyond the 2022/23 term.

Salah will enter the final year of his contract with Liverpool next month with contract negotiations between the two sides still ongoing. He is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, and as per the aforementioned report, the 29-year-old could decide to leave on a free transfer next summer unless he receives a ‘significantly improved’ offer from the Reds.

But if he does decide to move on from Anfield next summer, he would prefer to join another Premier League club. For the 2022/23 season, however, Salah is not willing to entertain offers from interested parties and will stay put at Liverpool irrespective of his contract situation.

The Athletic report claims Salah was offered a 15% improvement on his current deal, which his entourage believed didn’t do justice to his status of being one of the world’s best players. There had been claims that the Egyptian wants a lengthy deal but that is not the case with the aforementioned report stressing that he would be ready to sign even a two-year extension if the terms on offer were as per his demands.

The former Chelsea winger has had five glorious seasons with Liverpool, winning every major accolade in English football, along with the Champions League title. Salah turns 30 later this month but there is little doubt over his ability to continue at the same level for another couple of seasons, at the very least.

Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot this past season, scoring 23 goals, and led the Reds to Carabao Cup and FA Cup title wins. The Merseyside club fell just short in the league title race, losing out to Manchester City by a point, and the Champions League, where they lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in the final.

Salah won’t be short of suitors as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have already registered their interest in the attacker. Liverpool, however, are confident that the Egyptian will extend his stay with the club. In case he does not, the 29-year-old would seemingly be open to joining a direct rival of Liverpool in 2023.

If his wages got doubled would he manage to perform at a consistent level for the entire season instead of packing his form away with the christmas decorations.

Big players perform on the biggest stage, and deliver in the big moments – the league cup, nope and then in the last 6 weeks of the season, Spurs at home, nope, the FA Cup final (before he went off injured), nope and the European Cup final, again, nope.
