Real Madrid will reportedly need to cough up €40 million to secure the services of German international Serge Gnabry in the summer.

According to a report by German publication Bild, Bayern Munich will demand €40 million to part with Serge Gnabry in the summer transfer window. The German international is currently in a contract standoff with the Bavarian giants, with Real Madrid keen on securing his services.

Serge Gnabry has come leaps and bounds since joining Bayern Munich a few years ago. The 26-year-old, a mainstay in attack for club and country, is now one of the best players in the Bundesliga and has played an instrumental role in Bayern Munich’s dominance in domestic football in recent seasons.

The German international has amassed 64 goals and 40 assists in 171 appearances for Bayern Munich thus far. But Gnabry faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena, as his contract will run out next year and developments on the renewal front have been slow. Such a situation has captured the attention of some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid.

While reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has ruled out a summer move for Gnabry to Real Madrid, the Merengues remain in contention to sign the Bayern Munich forward. And following Real Madrid’s inability to sign Kylian Mbappe in a Bosman move this summer, the former Arsenal man is a viable target for Los Blancos.

The German international is versatile enough to play on either flank, meaning he could adapt to the requirements of Carlo Ancelotti’s team seamlessly. Recent reports have also suggested that Real Madrid and Gnabry are in contact, with David Alaba advocating for his former Bayern Munich teammate.

The Spanish giants now know how much they will need to pay to sign Gnabry, with Bayern Munich demanding around €40 million to part with the player. It is unclear if Real Madrid will be open to shelling out such a sum, although the price tag seems reasonable, considering his age, playing style and contract length.

With a few other clubs plotting a Bosman move for 2023 for Gnabry, Real Madrid can jump the queue and sign the German international ahead of the remaining suitors. And if Gnabry’s contract standoff with Bayern Munich continues, a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu could be on the cards.
