Manchester United are reportedly weighing up one final bid in their attempts to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are readying a fresh and final attempt to land top target Ruben Neves. The Wolves midfielder is rated highly by the incoming boss Erik ten Hag, with the club set to make one final bid in their hopes of snapping up the Portuguese international in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Neves has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. They had previously tried to sign the midfielder by launching a £35 million bid. But it was swiftly rejected by Wolves, who are reportedly holding out for a fee of around £50 million, despite the player only having two years remaining on his contract.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Neves is regarded as one of the best number sixes in the Premier League. During his five years at Wolves, the Portuguese international has made a solid impression with his passing range and the ability to anchor the midfield.

In addition to his qualities as an anchorman, Neves is an aggressive ball-winner and has a vicious right foot that makes him a threat from long range. With over 200 competitive appearances for Wolves, Neves also offers significant experience at the highest level of football, making him an ideal alternative for Manchester United’s top midfield target N’Golo Kante.

At Old Trafford, the Portuguese international is likely to be considered as a direct replacement for Nemanja Matic. The veteran midfielder had confirmed his exit from Manchester United at the end of the season, whereas there have been doubts over Scott McTominay’s quality to sustain himself as a first-team regular under ten Hag.

The addition of Ruben Neves, therefore, could go a long way in helping Manchester United improve their ranks in the middle of the park. But as mentioned earlier, luring him away from Molineux could be tricky, with Wolves holding out for around £50 million, as they look to make a significant profit out of their prized asset.

The report from The Sun fails to mention the exact figure of Manchester United’s bid. However, judging from their early proposal of £35 million, Wolves will certainly be hoping for a figure of around £40-45 million.
