La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly closing in on signing Spanish midfield sensation Unai Hernandez from Girona in the summer.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Albert Roge, Unai Hernandez is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are in advanced talks to sign the teenage midfield sensation from Girona, with the youngster poised to join the Juvenil A team.

Barcelona’s financial crisis has been a blessing in disguise for their youth setup. The famed La Masia academy had seen an exodus of the brightest young prospects for a few years, as a clear pathway to first-team football was not visible for a long time for up and coming players.

But Barcelona’s inability to shell out the big bucks in the transfer market has prompted them to bank on youngsters in the last couple of seasons. Gavi, Pedri and Nico Gonzalez are the shining examples of the same outlook, with Alejandro Balde tipped to be Jordi Alba’s long-term successor.

The Catalan giants are thus seeing an influx of prodigious players in the youth setup again, securing the services of Pablo Torre and Emre Demir in the last few months. But Barcelona’s youth drive is not ending with the capture of Torre and Demir, with Endrick another player emerging on their radar.

The Brazilian prodigy is one of the most highly sought-after whizkids in the world, with Barcelona ready to open talks to sign him. And the latest prospect to emerge on Barcelona’s radar is Unai Hernandez, a teenage midfield sensation who currently plies his trade for Girona.

The Spanish wonderkid is yet to make his first-team debut for Girona but has one appearance for their reserve team. A holding midfielder by trade, Hernandez is technically gifted, making him an appealing long-term prospect for Barcelona, who are in advanced talks to sign the Girona whizkid.

With Sergio Busquets approaching the final phase of his storied career, Hernandez will have the chance to quickly secure his first-team debut if he continues to showcase his potential at the youth level. But the teenage midfield sensation will eventually join Barcelona’s Juvenil A team. So a big move beckons Hernandez.
