Premier League side Brentford have reportedly offered a long-term contract to Christian Eriksen, a target for Manchester United and Tottenham.

According to iNews, Brentford have approached Christian Eriksen’s entourage with a long-term contract amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. The Danish playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest during his country’s UEFA Euro 2020 encounter against Finland.

The 30-year-old was away from football for eight months before returning to the Premier League with Brentford in the second half of the ongoing Premier League season. He was an instant hit at the club, scoring once and assisting four goals to establish Brentford’s spot in the English top-flight just a season after gaining promotion from the Championship.

Eriksen initially signed a six-month contract with the Premier League side, who have now offered him a long-term contract. His performances for Brentford, however, have not gone unnoticed, with interest emerging from his former side Tottenham Hotspur and also Manchester United.

Eriksen spent more than six seasons at Tottenham between 2013 and 2020 before joining Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. He grew into one of the most important players at Tottenham, making 305 appearances for them, scoring 69 times and assisting 90 goals.

Eriksen’s stint with Inter Milan was not very fruitful, as he made only 60 appearances for the Nerazzurri in which he contributed with eight goals and three assists. His return to footballing action after eight months on the sidelines has been quite fruitful, with clubs lining up for his signature.

While Brentford won’t be able to offer him UEFA Champions League football, they could promise him sustained game time, which could help his case to be in the Denmark squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup. Eriksen, for his part, is considering extending his stay at Brentford.

On the other hand, Tottenham are eager to bring the playmaker back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and they could also offer him Champions League football should they manage to finish in the top four. Eriksen played under Conte at Inter Milan, which could help Spurs’ case.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have Eriksen on their radar, but their primary target remains Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, who excelled under incoming manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
