Premier League giants Manchester United will have to pay at least €30 million to sign Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez this summer.

According to Daily Telegraph, Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez, who is the latest player to be added to Manchester United’s transfer wishlist, will cost them at least €30 million this summer. Martinez has joined a sizeable list of players to have played under incoming manager Erik ten Hag who are being courted by the Red Devils.

Manchester United have been linked with moves for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and winger Antony, while former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong is reportedly on the agenda at Old Trafford as well. The reported approaches make sense, however, as ten Hag has a huge task at hand, and with familiar faces around, the process could become a little easier.

Manchester United are currently in the market for centre-back signings despite adding Raphael Varane, who has had a season affected by injuries, to their squad last summer. Captain Harry Maguire has also struggled this term, forcing Manchester United’s hands to look for better options.

Martinez has emerged as one of the many options for Manchester United. The 24-year-old Argentine joined Ajax in 2019 and has since made 119 appearances for the Amsterdam-based club. He has won two Eredivisie titles with them and was named their Player of the Year for their recently-concluded season.

But with three years remaining on his contract with the Dutch giants, Manchester United will have to pay at least €30 million for the defender. Having played under ten Hag, Martinez could quickly settle into the scheme of things and provide depth to the Manchester United defence. Barcelona are also said to be showing interest in the Argentine.

The player can also play as a defensive midfielder, and his versatility could come in handy for the Premier League giants. Martinez’s partner at the centre of Ajax defence, Jurrien Timber, is also getting linked with a move to Old Trafford. Timber is a versatile player as well and can play at right-back – another area Manchester United are keen to reinforce ahead of the next season.

It remains to be seen how many of these current or former Ajax players ten Hag manages to bring to Manchester United, as he gets set to undertake a massive rebuild job in the summer.
