David Ospina has handed Real Madrid a boost in his pursuit as the 33-year-old Napoli goalkeeper is reportedly open to joining Los Blancos in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, David Ospina could leave Serie A giants Napoli as a free agent in the summer transfer window. The 33-year-old goalkeeper is keen on joining Real Madrid, who could sign him as a replacement for Andriy Lunin.

David Ospina has fared decently since joining Napoli from Arsenal. The Colombian goalkeeper had initially moved to the Serie A club on a season-long loan deal in 2018/19 before completing a permanent transfer in July 2019. And while he has not been the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the Partenopei, he has given a good account of himself whenever he has played.

The 33-year-old has turned out over 100 times for Napoli thus far, conceding 96 goals while keeping 39 clean sheets. But Ospina could leave the Serie A club as a free agent in the summer transfer window, as his contract will run out next month. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian goalkeeper remains highly rated by Carlo Ancelotti but could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window to feature more prominently at another club.

While Ancelotti is an admirer of Lunin’s talents, he will not stop the youngster from leaving if a good offer comes Real Madrid’s way. And the Real Madrid manager will prefer to sign Ospina as a replacement for Lunin, who has recently been linked with Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur.

Signing Ospina could have some obstacles as recent reports have claimed that Luciano Spalletti wants Napoli to extend the 33-year-old’s stay at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. But the veteran goalkeeper is keen on joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to MARCA.

Ospina’s stance has come as a boost for Real Madrid, who could launch the offensive for the Colombian goalkeeper in July if he has not signed a new contract with Napoli. Till then, Ospina’s future at the Serie A club remains highly uncertain.
