Barcelona will not pay more than €35 million for Robert Lewandowski and could reportedly offer Memphis Depay to Bayern Munich to bring the transfer fee down.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will hope to sign Robert Lewandowski in a €30 million deal in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are open to paying slightly more for the Bayern Munich striker but will not offer more than €35 million to prise him away from the Bundesliga champions.

Robert Lewandowski’s illustrious Bayern Munich stint seems to be close to ending. The Pole has created a legacy at the Allianz Arena that can match the legendary Gerd Muller but wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window before his peak years end.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant 2021/22 campaign, amassing 50 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. But after publicly revealing that he wants to leave Bayern Munich, a summer departure from the Bundesliga club could be on the cards. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the evolving situation of the first-team squad at Camp Nou. Xavi Hernandez will continue to remodel the unit at his disposal in the summer transfer window, and Martin Braithwaite could leave to secure regular game-time elsewhere as part of the overhaul.

In addition, Luuk de Jong will return to Sevilla once his loan deal ends, with Barcelona unlikely to sign him permanently. The duo’s departure will leave Xavi with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only natural striker at his disposal, thus creating the need for someone like Lewandowski.

The veteran striker is also keen on joining Barcelona, with recent reports claiming he is prepared to snub Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to move to Camp Nou. And Barcelona will hope to land him in a deal worth €30 million in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are ready to offer up to €35 million for him but will not go over that cap.

Barcelona’s financial woes mean they will need to be efficient with their purchases in the summer transfer window. But if Bayern Munich’s demands exceed €35 million, Barcelona could offer Memphis Depay to the Bundesliga champions to bring down the transfer fee.
