Barcelona are reportedly set to face competition from French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona are set to face competition from PSG in their pursuit to sign Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski, who has made up his mind on a summer exit from the Allianz Arena.

Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich in 2014 from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. Since then, the 33-year-old has grown into one of the best strikers in the game, winning every possible trophy with the Bavarian giants and shattering all sorts of goalscoring records along the way.

After eight years at the club, though, the Poland international is seemingly ready for a new challenge in his career. Lewandowski will enter the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich this summer and has decided not to sign a new deal with the club.

Barcelona have been credited with a strong interest in the Poland international ahead of the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana are in the market for a world-class striker who can fill the void left behind by Lionel Messi’s departure last summer. While they had been linked to Erling Haaland, he is headed to Manchester City.

Barcelona have since shifted their attention to Lewandowski and are positive about landing the 33-year-old striker before next season. However, they are now likely to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who have also expressed an interest in signing the Bayern Munich superstar, who has plundered 50 goals across all competitions this season.

According to the report, PSG are on the lookout for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is set to join Real Madrid at the end of the season on a Bosman transfer. While they are making serious attempts to stop the Frenchman from leaving, the French champions are preparing for such an eventuality and have identified several options to replace the 23-year-old.

PSG are looking at Benfica’s Darwin Nunez as a potential replacement, along with Liverpool’s Salah. At the same time, they are also looking at Lewandowski, who could be available for around €35-40 million in the summer. With Bayern Munich now willing to negotiate a transfer for the Poland ace, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can clinch Lewandowski’s transfer or get beaten to the punch by PSG.
