Turkish giants Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in signing Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Mariano Diaz is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce over a move in the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old will likely leave Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season, with a transfer to Turkey on the horizon.

Mariano Diaz is currently in his second stint with Real Madrid after returning to the Santiago Bernabeu from Lyon in August 2018. But the player has been unable to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Real Madrid, with Karim Benzema the undisputed first-choice striker for Los Blancos.

The 28-year-old has endured a forgettable 2021/22 season, managing just 316 minutes of game-time across ten appearances in all competitions. And with his career headed nowhere, Mariano will need to leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window to get back on track at the club level. The forward’s next destination could be Fenerbahce.

Ismail Kartal has three strikers at his disposal at Fenerbahce, with Mergim Berisha, Sardar Dursun and Enner Valencia all featuring prominently for the Turkish giants. But Valencia and Dursun are on the wrong side of 30, which could be prompting Kartal to ask for a new striker next season.

With none of the three Fenerbahce strikers being particularly prolific, signing Mariano Diaz could be a step in the right direction. The Real Madrid forward has thus emerged as a viable target for the Turkish giants, who will be desperate to reclaim the Super Lig title next season.

Mariano will benefit from joining a club like Fenerbahce, as he has the quality to become the first-choice striker for the Turkish giants. At the same time, he will get to feature prominently at the club level after becoming a bit-part player at Real Madrid in the last four years.

With that, the 28-year-old forward will get to roll back the years to his days at Lyon, where he enjoyed a productive short spell before returning to Real Madrid. Los Blancos will unlikely stand in Mariano’s way either, considering they are linked with several strikers, including Amine Gouiri.
