La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly involved in a transfer tussle to land 17-year-old wonderkid Mehdi Ganouni when he leaves PSG.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Mehdi Ganouni is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old wonderkid will likely leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent after the ongoing season ends, with Espanyol and Eintracht Frankfurt also keen on signing him.

Mehdi Ganouni is widely regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in France, with the teenage prodigy going from strength to strength since joining the Paris Saint-Germain youth setup a few years ago.

But Ganouni’s future is up in the air, as his contract will expire in the summer transfer window. The 17-year-old wonderkid has shown little to no inclination to extend his stay at PSG, meaning he will likely depart from the French capital as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And there is no shortage of interest in the young attacker, with Barcelona among the clubs keen on signing him.

The Catalan giants are renowned for foraying into markets in Spain, Europe and beyond searching for the brightest young prospects in the game. Such an outlook has fetched Barcelona several legends over the years, with the current first-team setup filled with prodigious players like Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez.

The Blaugrana will likely sign a few more talented youngsters in the summer transfer window, with several whizkids, including Henrique Araujo, emerging on their radar. And Ganouni is also a viable target for Barcelona, who can integrate the 17-year-old PSG wonderkid into the B team before he becomes ready to become a first-team regular.

Ganouni is not the only PSG player on Barcelona’s radar, with the Blaugrana competing with Bayer Leverkusen to secure the services of Xavi Simons in the summer. And Ganouni could be the latest prodigious PSG prospect to leave Les Parisiens to secure a quicker pathway to first-team football.

The prime example of youngsters leaving PSG for better prospects is Christopher Nkunku, although he departed after graduating into the first-team setup. As for Ganouni, Barcelona will compete with Espanyol and Eintracht Frankfurt to secure the services of the 17-year-old prodigy, who will embark on a new adventure in the summer.
