Premier League side Aston Villa have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to Football Insider, Premier League side Aston Villa have received a boost in their pursuit of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips. The England international is reportedly keen on a move away from Elland Road with Leeds struggling to stay afloat in the Premier League.

The Whites are currently 18th in the league table, level on points with 17th-placed Burnley, who have a match in hand. Leeds have just two more fixtures left to play in the English top-flight this season, against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, and are in danger of getting relegated.

With Jesse Marsch’s side looking at a possible return to the Championship, they could lose some of their top players, and Phillips is one of their stars linked with a move away from the club. The 26-year-old midfielder will have just two years remaining on his contract with Leeds, with extension talks still ongoing.

But as per the aforementioned report, Phillips is not too keen on staying at Elland Road and is planning a move away from the club. This has come as a boost for Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, who recently completed Philippe Coutinho’s signing from Barcelona and now wish to add a defensive midfielder to the squad.

There are still question marks over Douglas Luiz’s future at the club with the Brazilian having just a year remaining on his contract after the ongoing season. Moreover, as per the aforementioned report, Gerrard isn’t of the view that his current squad can fulfil Villa owners’ ambitions and is eager to add reinforcements this summer.

But Aston Villa aren’t the only side in contention for the signing of the £60million-rated Leeds United midfielder. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all reportedly tracking Phillips, with the Red Devils said to be especially interested.

Phillips has had an injury-ravaged season and has made just 18 Premier League appearances. But that hasn’t affected his market value, which soared after a brilliant Euro last year. With the midfielder keen on an exit, it now remains to be seen if Villa are able to land the Englishman come summer.
