Arsenal are reportedly leading the race for Brazilian starlet Marquinhos, with Wolves also in the hunt for the versatile forward from Sao Paulo.

According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola (h/t Sport Witness), Arsenal are leading the race for Sao Paulo’s 19-year-old starlet Marquinhos. Wolves are also looking at the versatile forward, although it seems the Gunners are in pole position.

Arsenal are looking to add quality players to their squad in the summer window after a reasonably successful season under Mikel Arteta. Having signed six players under the age of 23, the Gunners have fielded the youngest teams in this season’s Premier League on more occasions than anyone else.

The north London side are looking at a bit of experience this summer, as their close links to Gabriel Jesus tend to suggest. At the same time, Arteta is looking to continue the trend of signing young, up and coming stars.

Arsenal are looking for a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. They are reportedly prioritising a move for Cody Gakpo. Other targets, such as Raheem Sterling, feature on their radar, but they might stick to the idea of bringing someone young and in line with the current age group of their attackers.

Arsenal have had decent success with Brazilian players in recent years and are looking to continue this trend. They have been linked with a few young players from the Brazilian league, such as Danilo. The latest name on their list is Sao Paulo starlet Marquinhos.

The 19-year-old is a versatile forward who primarily plays on the right-hand side. He can also slot in through the middle, making him an attractive prospect for Arteta to consider. According to Sao Paulo’s president, Marquinhos has a €50 million release clause in the contract, although the Gunners could look to conclude a deal for much less.

Marquinhos has three goals to show for his cause from 15 games in all competitions this term. These are not great numbers but have been enough to attract the interest of Arsenal and Wolves. Bruno Lage’s side have been on the hunt for the starlet, but Jorge Nicola claims the Gunners are leading the chase for the attacker.

Whether Wolves come back strongly with their interest remains to be seen. As things stand, Arsenal have not made any official proposal for the 19-year-old, which may come after the current season.
