Premier League side Newcastle United have reportedly given up on the pursuit of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

According to Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United have pulled out of their pursuit of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard due to his exorbitant demands. The English international’s contract with the Red Devils is expiring this summer, and he is free to join any other club on a Bosman move.

The report claims that Lingard is demanding wages in the region of £150,000 per week, plus a signing-on fee, which the Magpies have deemed too high to match. Newcastle United have thus pulled out of the pursuit of the 29-year-old, who now looks set for a move away from the Premier League when he leaves Manchester United.

Newcastle United were interested in signing Lingard on a loan deal this past January, but Manchester United reportedly blocked the move. With no improvement in the attacking midfielder’s game time, the Tyneside club returned to sign him in a Bosman move but to no avail.

The 29-year-old was also linked with a permanent move to West Ham United last summer after a successful six-month spell with the Hammers, but the Red Devils reportedly could not agree on a fee. Lingard, as a result, stayed put at Manchester United but saw no significant improvement in his game time and is now set to depart Old Trafford as a free agent this summer.

Lingard was especially impressive on his six-month loan spell at West Ham last season, where he scored nine times and assisted five goals in 16 Premier League appearances. It is because of the form that he showed for the Hammers that has him on the transfer wishlist of clubs across Europe.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and AC Milan are all said to be interested in signing the English international, who is unhappy with how Manchester United have treated him. Lingard has made just 22 appearances for the club this season, totalling 548 minutes on the pitch, after getting assurances that he would feature consistently under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer.

Lingard looks all set to leave Manchester United but it remains to be seen which club manage to get him on board following Newcastle United’s decision to end the pursuit of the 29-year-old.
