Newly crowned La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing 25-year-old Italian right-back Davide Calabria from AC Milan.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Davide Calabria is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are eyeing the 25-year-old AC Milan defender as a possible right-back solution heading into the 2022/23 season.

Davide Calabria has spent his entire career with AC Milan and has gone from strength to strength since breaking into their first-teamsquad over half a dozen years ago. The Italian international has grown in stature even more in the last few seasons, establishing himself as one of the best right-backs in Europe while becoming a pivotal figure for the Rossoneri.

The 25-year-old has not been at his best in the ongoing campaign but has still managed two goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. Calabria’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

Real Madrid could delve into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window, as Dani Carvajal has endured a dip in performance levels in the past year after suffering a few injuries. And with Lucas Vazquez blowing hot and cold as a makeshift right-back this season, the need to bolster the position has accentuated.

As a result, Reece James recently popped up on Real Madrid’s radar as a possible target for the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants have even approached the Chelsea defender over a move, with the Englishman reportedly keen on joining Los Blancos.

But the Blues are not ready to entertain any offers for James and will table a bumper new deal after the completion of their takeover. Calabria is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, with the 25-year-old having the best years of his career ahead of him.

But convincing AC Milan to part with the Italian right-back could be a tall order for Real Madrid. However, if Calabria pushes for his departure from San Siro, a transfer could see the light of day in the summer transfer window.
