Arsenal could look to sign Raheem Sterling in the summer, while Manchester City might have to sell the 27-year-old English international.

According to Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are considering signing Raheem Sterling in the summer, as Mikel Arteta eyes top-notch options to bolster his squad’s attacking unit. The Manchester City forward will enter the final year of his deal at the club, which may prompt a sale in the close season.

Raheem Sterling has cut a somewhat frustrating figure at Manchester City this season, with multiple factors affecting his future. Firstly, there is his precarious contract situation, with the 27-year-old English international set to enter the last year of his deal. Secondly, Pep Guardiola’s reluctance to start him in major games, such as the UEFA Champions League semi-final at Real Madrid has left him frustrated.

Moreover, Sterling is reportedly not convinced with Manchester City’s offer for an extension, which has prompted reports to suggest he might be open to leaving on a free transfer in 2023. The Premier League leaders may not want to see a player entering his prime leave on a Bosman move, and hence, they could entertain offers in the close season.

Arsenal are reportedly keen to secure the services of Sterling, as Mikel Arteta eyes a top-notch forward to bolster his attacking options. The Gunners are already the favourites to land Sterling’s Manchester City teammate Gabriel Jesus and may add the 27-year-old English international to the mix.

Arteta wants to sign players who can pose a goal threat as he looks for viable replacements for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Moreover, the Arsenal manager wants a forward who could play wide roles and also feature centrally to become the focal point of attack.

After Arteta signed his new deal with Arsenal, there has been plenty of optimism at the club. The new contract is considered a blueprint for future success, and there is plenty of work for Arsenal to do, starting with the next window. The north Londoners are vying for success in the coming period, and hence need a player of Sterling’s ilk to bolster their chances.

Arteta and Sterling have worked together for three years when the Spaniard was assisting Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The Arsenal boss was credited for Sterling’s vast improvement during those seasons, as he became a regular with the club and the English national team.

Manchester City may look to solve things with the 27-year-old forward but could put him up for sale if push came to shove as they do not want to lose him on a free transfer. Arsenal signing Sterling makes a big statement about their intent next season, as they could then become serious challengers for the domestic crown.

How much Manchester City may demand to sell the 27-year-old remains a mystery. Even though Sterling’s contract will run out next year as things stand, the Premier League champions could yet demand a significant sum to let the English international leave and join a rival, possibly Arsenal.
