Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the capture of 16-year-old Bulgarian prodigy Martin Georgiev from Slavia Sofia.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are on the verge of completing another youth signing, with Bulgarian defensive prospect Martin Georgiev likely to arrive from Slavia Sofia in the summer.

Georgiev is a 16-year-old defender who came through the youth ranks at Slavia Sofia. Despite being just 16, the youngster has already broken into the first-team setup for the Bulgarian outfit and has made seven senior appearances so far in the current campaign, six of which have come in the Bulgarian top flight.

Georgiev has been called up to the Bulgarian Under-17 and the Under-19 setups on the international stages. However, he is yet to make his debut for either team. Nevertheless, the teenage centre-back is attracting a lot of eyeballs due to his potential and growth, with Barcelona among the clubs interested.

Barcelona have been focusing on bolstering their youth ranks, having seen the success that Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez and Ronald Araujo have achieved at the first-team level over the past couple of years.

This strategy has seen the Catalan giants already strike deals to sign Emre Demir from Kayserispor and Pablo Torre from Racing Santander. The duo will join Barcelona at the end of the season.

And, now as per the report, the Blaugrana are poised to strike a similar deal to secure the signing of Martin Georgiev from Slavia Sofia. The Bulgarian outfit have admitted previously that Barcelona have scouted the defender previously, and negotiations are underway over a possible switch at the end of the season.

The operation is not fully closed, but the report states that there is a lot of optimism about the deal going through. Should Georgiev sign for Barcelona, he is likely to link up with the club’s B team managed by Sergi Barjuan, where he would compete for places with talented defenders like Arnau Comas and Mika Marmol, among others.

Apart from Georgiev, Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Swedish midfield prodigy Williot Swedberg, while Brazilian prospects like Endrick and Kaiky Fernandes are also on the club’s radars.
