Barcelona and Real Madrid will reportedly need to stump up €50 million to sign Fabian Ruiz from Serie A giants Napoli in the summer.

According to a report by Italian publication Il Mattino, as relayed by Mondo Napoli, Barcelona and Real Madrid know how much they will need to shell out to sign Fabian Ruiz from Napoli in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants want to recoup €50 million from the Spanish midfielder’s sale.

Fabian Ruiz has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Napoli from Real Betis in July 2018. During this period, the 26-year-old has remained a pivotal figure for the Partenopei while also carving a place for himself in the Spanish national squad.

To date, Ruiz has made 164 appearances for Napoli, chipping in with 21 goals and 15 assists in the process. But the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over Ruiz’s long-term future, as his contract will expire next year and negotiations over a renewal have stalled. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid over a move in the summer transfer window.

The interest from Barcelona is a tad-bit surprising, considering Franck Kessie will likely move to Camp Nou from AC Milan in a Bosman move. The Ivory Coast international’s arrival will leave Xavi Hernandez with a well-stocked midfield unit. But with Frenkie de Jong facing an uncertain future at Barcelona, the Blaugrana might need to invest in a creative midfielder.

Ruiz is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with Carlos Soler also among the other options for the Catalan giants. But Barcelona will need to fend off stiff competition from Real Madrid to secure the services of the 26-year-old Spanish midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid could delve into the market for a creative midfielder in the summer transfer window as Isco’s contract runs out next month. The Spaniard’s departure will open up a spot in the midfield department, which Ruiz can take up. In turn, the Napoli star will also be well-settled at Real Madrid by the time Luka Modric reaches the end of his glittering career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona and Real Madrid now know how much they will have to pay to sign Ruiz from Napoli, with the Partenopei demanding €50 million for him. The Serie A giants reckon the sum recouped from Ruiz’s sale will help them in the summer transfer window. But it will be interesting to see if either La Liga club will shell out €50 million to land Ruiz, who is keen on joining Barcelona or Real Madrid in the summer.
