Andreas Christensen will reportedly sign a contract worth €5 million per year when he leaves Chelsea to join Barcelona in a Bosman move.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, the details of Andreas Christensen’s contract with Barcelona have emerged. The Chelsea defender will sign a deal worth €5 million per year when he moves to Camp Nou in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Andreas Christensen enjoyed a superb turnaround in fortunes over the last few years, starting with Frank Lampard’s tenure as the Chelsea manager. The Danish international became a mainstay at the back for the Blues in the 2019/20 season, and his stock has risen further since Thomas Tuchel replaced Lampard at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

To date, the 26-year-old has turned out 160 times for Chelsea, chipping in with two goals and two assists in the process. But Christensen’s stint with Chelsea will end in the summer transfer window when his contract runs out on June 30, 2022. And the player’s next destination is Barcelona.

Christensen was linked with several high profile clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich. But once Barcelona emerged as a potential destination, the Chelsea contract rebel did not think twice and leaned towards moving to Camp Nou in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

This season, the need to sign a centre-back has accentuated for Barcelona, as Gerard Pique is in the twilight of his career. In addition, Eric Garcia has blown hot and cold, while Samuel Umtiti, Oscar Mingueza, and Clement Lenglet are surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Ronald Araujo is thus the only reliable centre-back at Xavi Hernandez’s disposal. Christensen was thus a viable target for Barcelona, who quickly reached a verbal agreement to snap up the Chelsea defender in a Bosman move. And according to AS, the Danish international will sign a contract worth €5 million per year.

Christensen will pen a five-year contract, meaning he stands to earn €25 million during his stint with Barcelona if he honours his deal. As for Chelsea, the Blues are keenly searching for a replacement for Christensen, with Pau Torres emerging as one of the options on their radar.
