Premier League-bound Fulham are keeping a close eye on Coventry City star Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Football Insider, Fulham have made an approach to try and sign Coventry City star Viktor Gyokeres ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old joined the Sky Blues on a permanent basis in the summer of 2021. He spent the previous campaign on loan at the club and left enough of an impression for the Championship side to make the deal permanent.

Gyokeres is a full international for Sweden and has won four caps for the Scandinavian side. Primarily a centre-forward, he is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline. Having such a versatile attacker will be key given that Fabio Carvalho is set to join Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

Gyokeres is enjoying an excellent season despite Coventry sitting 11th in the English second division. With 17 goals and five assists from 44 league appearances, The forward has proven himself to be a consistent performer capable of producing pieces of magic in the attacking third.

Fulham blitzed through the Championship this season, scoring 104 goals in the competition so far. Aleksandar Mitrovic has been a proven goalscorer but his history in the Premier League is less than flattering. More so, the Cottagers cannot afford to get relegated next season and should add the right players who can help them retain their top-flight status.

Gyokeres is not a player who sets pulses racing, but at 23, can develop further under the right guidance. Coventry are unlikely to gain promotion to the Premier League anytime soon and the Swede will do well to jump ship and take his talents to a bigger audience. His current contract at Coventry expires in 2025 and the Sky Blues have the upper hand in negotiations.

Several players have bridged the chasm that operates between the first and second divisions of English football. James Maddison and Jarrod Bowen are among those players who made a smooth transition from the Championship to the Premier League in recent years. Whether Gyokeres will join that list remains to be seen.

Fulham cannot afford to fire blanks next season and the best way to ensure they remain in the Premier League is to not park a bus as their primary tactic. Marco Silva is an experienced Premier League manager and will know that it is the attack that wins you games. If Fulham believe that Gyokeres is the player to make their job easier, they should do everything in their power to land him.
