Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Sevilla’s wide player Marcos Acuna this summer.

According to a report from Futbol Total CF (h/t Fichajes), Manchester United have set their sights on Marcos Acuna. The Premier League giants are in the market for a new left-back this summer amid poor performances from existing options like Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Acuna has emerged as the ideal option following his impressive performances in La Liga over the past few years. The Sevilla star is already regarded as one of the best wide players in the Spanish top-flight, having enjoyed immense success under the leadership of Julen Lopetegui.

Although the 30-year-old Argentine international had initially started his career as an explosive winger, he has transformed himself into a left-back under Lopetegui. Since joining Sevilla in 2020, he has racked up 74 competitive appearances for the club.

Acuna’s offensive quality down the flanks, coupled with his creativity and athleticism have been essential behind Sevilla’s success in recent years, with Los Nervionenses firmly establishing themselves as one of the top clubs in Spain.

Manchester United’s interest in Acuna, as mentioned earlier, stems from the uncertainty surrounding the future of Shaw and Telles. Neither of these two fullbacks have been able to establish themselves as reliable performers and whether or not their services will be retained by new coach Erik ten Hag is currently anyone’s guess.

The Dutchman has been given a greater degree of power compared to previous managers. So it won’t be surprising to see him offloading several unwanted Manchester United stars in the summer, including Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Regardless of Shaw and Telles’ future at the club, Marcos Acuna could prove to be a sensible signing for Manchester United. The 30-year-old Argentine international offers a wealth of experience at the highest level of football and is versatile enough to cover the entire left-flank.

The Sevilla starlet can offer the much-needed competition in the left-back position at Manchester United. He could suit even better as a wing-back, offering attacking quality and dynamism on the flanks.

Signing the Argentine international from Sevilla, though, could be a tricky task. The player has recently penned a contract extension with Sevilla until 2025 and the Spanish giants will do everything they can to keep hold of their star man. Hence, the onus will be on Manchester United to come up with a lucrative offer, if they are to sign the 30-year-old this summer.
