Barcelona will reportedly be scrambling to secure the long-term future of Iker Cordoba amid interest from several high profile European clubs.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, renewing terms with Iker Cordoba has emerged as an urgent requirement for Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window. The 16-year-old Spanish prodigy is a target for European giants like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and AS Roma.

In the last few years, a notorious image has surrounded Barcelona, with several promising young prospects departing from the Catalan club to seek a quicker pathway to first-team football. As a result, the La Liga heavyweights have lost players like Xavi Simons, Eric Garcia and others, although Garcia recently returned to Camp Nou from Manchester City.

Iker Cordoba could be in the same boat, with his contract running out in June, alerting several high profile European clubs to the possibility of snapping him up. According to the report, Italian giants AC Milan and AS Roma are keen on signing the 16-year-old Barcelona prodigy, with Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also providing competition.

A move to Borussia Dortmund might be an attractive prospect, considering the Black and Yellows are renowned for grooming talented prospects before they blossom into world-class players. Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are two of the most recent examples of players who have developed into formidable footballers in the last few years at the Signal Iduna Park.

But Barcelona will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of Cordoba beyond the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana can show the 16-year-old Spanish prodigy some of the recent examples of fast-tracking prodigious youngsters into the first-team setup, with Gavi and Nico Gonzalez becoming regulars in the ongoing campaign.

With Barcelona eagerly searching for a centre-back in the market ahead of the summer transfer window amid links with Lisandro Martinez, Cordoba could have the chance to gradually find his way to the first-team setup at Camp Nou.

But Barcelona will need to move quickly to secure the 16-year-old’s long-term future, with pressure from European giants like AC Milan, AS Roma, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund rising. It will be interesting to see if Cordoba stays put at FC Barcelona or chooses to seek a quick pathway to first-team football by moving away from Camp Nou.
