Newcastle United and Leeds United are reportedly among the clubs in contention to sign USMNT’s emerging star Djordje Mihailovic.

A recent report from 1000 Cuori Rossoblu has offered an update on the future of Djordje Mihailovic. The Montreal Impact playmaker has become one of the most sought-after talents in the MLS following his excellent performances in his country’s premier soccer division.

The report primarily stresses on Bologna’s interest in the pursuit of Mihailovic. But it does add that the Italian outfit could face stiff competition from Premier League duo Leeds United and Newcastle United, whereas Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta, AS Roma and Bayer Leverkusen are some of the other clubs keen on acquiring the services of the playmaker.

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Mihailovic has been a revelation since his move to Montreal in late 2020. In one and a half years at the club, he has racked up eight goals and 16 assists in just under 50 competitive appearances, notably helping his team win the Canadian Cup in 2021.

Mihailovic’s creative prowess, coupled with his productivity and dynamism in the final third has not gone unnoticed. The 23-year-old has already won six caps for the USMNT and is expected to play a vital role for his country in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

But with the likes of Giovanni Reyna and Christian Pulisic ahead of him in the pecking order, Mihailovic might fancy a move to the Premier League this summer in order to improve his chances of becoming a first-team regular for the UMSNT later this year.

Leeds United are one of the clubs interested in acquiring the services of the Montreal Impact playmaker. Their head coach Jesse Marsch is well aware of North American football and believes the 23-year-old has what it takes to make a difference at Elland Road next season, especially amid uncertainties over the future of Raphinha.

Newcastle United are another club keen on signing the American international as coach Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his options in the creative unit. The Magpies do tend to rely heavily on the services of Allan Saint-Maximin, and that is where the addition of someone like Mihailovic could prove to be a smart move.

However, Bologna do have the upper hand in this race as the club’s owner Joey Saputo also owns Montreal Impact. It could make the job far easier for the Serie A outfit and see off competition from the Premier League and other European clubs, in the pursuit of Djordje Mihailovic this summer.
