Real Madrid are reportedly ready to hand defensive mainstay Eder Militao a new contract, irrespective of how their pursuit of Antonio Rudiger goes.

According to reputed transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are preparing a new contract offer for Eder Militao, irrespective of whether they sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger or not in the summer.

Eder Militao arrived at Real Madrid from FC Porto in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth €50 million. But the Brazilian international endured a difficult debut season and failed to get regular game-time, with Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos being the undisputed starters. However, the 24-year-old got a regular run in the side last season due to Ramos’s injury issues, and he has not looked back since.

Militao enjoyed a fine campaign last season and has been in top form in the current term as well, forging a rock-solid defensive partnership with new signing David Alaba. Their performances have been key to Real Madrid opening up a near-unassailable lead at the top of the La Liga standings and progressing to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

At the same time, Real Madrid are in the market for a new centre-back. A move for Chelsea superstar Antonio Rudiger is in the works, with the German international set to become a free agent at the end of the season. While Los Blancos wish to sign him and bolster their defensive ranks, that is unlikely to have an impact on Eder Militao’s status.

Indeed, the update from Fabrizio Romano states that Real Madrid will go ahead with their new contract offer for Militao, irrespective of how their pursuit of Rudiger pans out. The 24-year-old’s current contract with the Spanish capital club runs until the summer of 2025. But the club are keen on rewarding him with an improved deal due to his performances.

A proposal is already ready, as per the report from Romano, and Real Madrid expect no hiccups in the extension to go through, with the deal expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Apart from Militao, Real Madrid are also planning new contract talks with Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric, with the latter’s current deal expiring at the end of the season. The La Liga leaders have also tabled a new offer for Marco Asensio amid interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
