Feyenoord are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea starlet Ian Maatsen who has impressed while on loan at Coventry City this season.

According to Voetbal Primeur, Feyenoord are keen on signing Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, with the former PSV Eindhoven starlet impressing while on loan at Coventry City this season.

Ian Maatsen is one of the many players out on loan from Chelsea, as the Premier League side continue to boast a massive army of players who are developing elsewhere. The club have imposed a policy over the last many years to send players out on temporary moves and then cash in when a decent offer comes in.

The system has generated plenty of revenue for Chelsea. For instance, they sold at least three or four players in the last window who have gone on to star for their current stars. Players such as Tammy Abraham, Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori and Tino Livramento have all come through the Blues’ youth system and were sold for massive profits by Chelsea.

Conor Gallagher is another such player who could fetch a huge sum if Chelsea decide to sell him. The midfielder is on loan to Crystal Palace, and the Blues could demand £50 million if someone wishes to purchase him outright.

Maatsen seems to be heading in the same direction, and there seems a possibility he will leave the club again next summer. Currently, the left-sided player is a regular starter for Championship side Coventry City, making 40 appearances across all competitions this term.

The 20-year-old has a contract with Chelsea until 2024 and is already attracting interest from many clubs. Owing to his decent performances, even Barcelona showed interest during the January transfer window, although it has died down since.

Feyenoord are the latest club to turn their attention towards Maatsen, as they want the former PSV starlet back in the Eredivisie. The Dutch side are keen on recruiting him from Chelsea in the summer to strengthen the squad. Whether they are seeking a loan move or a permanent deal remains unclear.

Maatsen will return to Chelsea in the summer but could leave again as the club already have Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso as senior left-back options. As things stand, he has had a good season at Coventry, which could bring in other clubs into the equation. There could be interest from Championship sides, but the lure of returning to his homeland may be tempting for Maatsen and work in favour of Feyenoord.
