La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani in a Bosman move in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Edinson Cavani is destined to leave Manchester United as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And his next destination could be Real Madrid, with Los Blancos keen on signing the Uruguayan forward in a Bosman move.

Edinson Cavani has enjoyed a legendary career, with his best phase coming during a seven-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain. The 35-year-old is Les Parisiens’ all-time leading goalscorer and won numerous trophies at Parc des Princes. His current stint is at Manchester United, with the player arriving at Old Trafford in October 2020 as a deadline-day signing.

Cavani’s acquisition was initially met with scepticism, but he won the Manchester United fans over with a solid 2020/21 campaign. However, the ongoing season has been disastrous for Cavani, with a spate of injuries restricting his participation to just 761 minutes of game-time across 17 outings. And the Uruguayan forward is destined to leave Manchester United in the summer, with Real Madrid a likely next destination.

Real Madrid will aim to sign a striker in the summer transfer window amid rising uncertainties surrounding the futures of Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz. Cavani could be a solid short-term upgrade on the two out-of-favour strikers after showing that he still has a lot to offer during his Manchester United spell.

Real Madrid’s primary objective is to sign a striker who could be Karim Benzema’s long-term successor despite the Frenchman’s undeniable form. To that end, Erling Haaland is Los Blancos’ priority for the summer transfer window.

But Manchester City might be the favourites to land the Borussia Dortmund striker’s signature, thus prompting Real Madrid to set sights on an alternative. As a result, Cavani has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with the Manchester United forward considered for a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Signing Cavani will enable Real Madrid to make the most of Benzema’s best years before possibly easing Kylian Mbappe into the role of the central striker, provided the Frenchman arrives from PSG. And Cavani could reunite with Mbappe at Real Madrid next season once he leaves Manchester United.
