Tottenham Hotspur are scouting RC Lens midfield lynchpin Seko Fofana, with the summer move in the sights.

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Seko Fofana. The midfielder was one of two RC Lens players the club were scouting in the French club’s recent win over OGC Nice. It appears the Lilywhites fancy making a move in the summer transfer window, with Antonio Conte desperate to reinforce his options in the middle of the park.

Formerly of Udinese, Fofana has been at Lens for almost a couple of years now. Since joining the club in 2020, he has become an ever-present figure in the midfield unit, racking up a total of  66 competitive appearances.

The 26-year-old’s impressive work ethic, coupled with his versatility has raised many eyebrows across Ligue 1 this term. And it appears the player could soon be on the verge of sealing a move to a bigger club, with Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

There is a dearth of options in Spurs’ midfield camp at the moment, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur being the only reliable choices in the first-team for coach Antonio Conte. Oliver Skipp started the season well but has had issues with injury while Harry Winks could leave the club amid interest from Crystal Palace.

It makes Seko Fofana an ideal target for Tottenham as he can compete with Hojbjerg and Bentancur for a place in the first team. Formerly of the Manchester City youth academy, the Lens star has significant experience at the highest level of football, with a combined total of more than 200 appearances during his time in Ligue 1 and Serie A.

Fofana’s aggression and versatility should also make him an ideal prospect for Conte’s tactical setup that requires hard-working individuals in the middle of the park. And given his age profile, he isn’t likely to cost a fortune either, making him a proper bargain for Spurs next season.

Fofana, though, isn’t the only option for Tottenham next season as the Lilywhites have also targeted in-demand Leicester City ace Youri Tielemans. The Belgian international could be available for just €30 million in the summer, and Spurs may get the upper hand over Manchester United and Arsenal if they can secure Champions League football.
