Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly demand a transfer fee of €25 million for defender Emerson Royal, who is a target for Atletico Madrid.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur have set a price tag of €25 million on right-back Emerson Royal. The defender is linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Emerson arrived at Tottenham only last summer, signing from Barcelona in a deal worth €25 million. So far, the Brazilian full-back has failed to live up to the billing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although there have been glimpses of his potential now and then.

The 23-year-old has featured 34 times for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting one more. Despite being deployed as a wing-back in Antonio Conte’s system, Emerson has been unable to perform at the level expected. And a swift return to Spain could be on the cards for the defender come summer.

Indeed, Emerson is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid heading into the upcoming transfer window. The La Liga champions have failed to replace Kieran Trippier, who joined Newcastle United in January earlier this year and have identified the Tottenham star as a potential candidate to fill in the right-back slot for years to come.

The Brazilian himself confirmed that there was interest from Diego Simeone’s side. And now, it is being claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may well be open to offloading Emerson at the end of the season.

Having been unimpressed by the former Barcelona ace, Tottenham are contemplating a sale in the summer. However, as per the report, the Lilywhites will demand a sum of €25 million – the transfer fee they paid to sign him – from any prospective suitors, including Atletico Madrid in the summer.

It could be a major stumbling block, though, as Atleti are believed to be reluctant to shell out such a sum on a defender. Instead, it is claimed that they will try to negotiate a lower fee with Tottenham. But considering that Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, Atletico Madrid might not have any luck in their attempts to get Spurs to lower their valuation of Emerson.
