Tottenham have reportedly submitted a €50 million offer for Alessandro Bastoni, who could be sold by Inter Milan to raise funds in the summer.

According to Fichajes, Tottenham are ready to make another big move for a centre-back as they seek one from Inter Milan in the summer. Alessandro Bastoni is the name being targetted, with Spurs reportedly tabling a €50 million offer for the 22-year-old centre-back.

Inter Milan are still in a financial mess and may end up selling some of their star names in the summer to raise funds. There is no immediate crisis at the club, although the Serie A champions still face a challenge to balance their books, which could force them to offload a few stars.

There are a few notable candidates, including Lautaro Martinez, courting interest from Premier League clubs. Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni have also been linked with several outfits. It may be unprecedented to sell all those names, although one of them might end up departing.

Bastoni has become a key member of Simone Inzaghi’s defensive setup, making 37 appearances across all competitions. His contract at San Siro lasts until 2024, which may prompt Inter to cash in on the UEFA Euro 2020 winner if a reasonable offer comes their way.

Tottenham are reportedly interested in Bastoni, with former Inter boss Antonio Conte keen on reuniting with his former charge. The north Londoners continue to push for a top-four finish, and if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League, the Italian manager will want to increase the squad’s depth.

Tottenham have been planning on signing Bastoni since the January transfer window ended. They could get serious with their approach. Football director Fabio Paratici has important ties in the Italian market, which he used to lure Cristian Romero last summer, and a similar story could develop this year with Bastoni.

Bastoni is also courting interest from Real Madrid, although the comfort of playing under Conte could prove crucial. Spurs have reportedly tabled a €50 million bid for the defender, but Inter Milan could demand more for the centre-back.

It is not just due to the two remaining years on his contract but also his overall long-term value. Inter could seek much more than the €50 million on the table, which probably gets Tottenham enough room to continue negotiations with the Serie A champions.

It remains to be seen if the move transpires into a success, although given Bastoni’s quality, many other big clubs could make their interest known. Tottenham, under Conte, could be a good path for the defender, although the lure of bigger sides might become a problem for the north Londoners in their pursuit of the UEFA Euro 2020 winner.
