Premier League sides Everton and West Ham United are interested in Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg.

As per reports in Sport Mediaset, Everton and West Ham United are monitoring Mattias Svanberg, who is also believed to be on the wishlist of AC Milan. The 23-year-old has just over a year remaining on his contract with Bologna, and could thus be the subject of bids from potential suitors this summer.

A Malmo youth product, Svanberg joined Bologna in a €4.5 million move from the Swedish club in the 2018 summer. He took his time before cementing his spot in the middle of the park for Bologna and is now one of the first names on Sinisa Mihajlovic’s teamsheet.

After making 23 and 25 league appearances for the Italian side in his first two seasons, Svanberg played 34 Serie A matches last season and has registered 29 appearances this time out. Adept at playing as a central, defensive and attacking midfielder, the Swedish international has also scored thrice and assisted two goals this season.

Svanberg has a high work rate and pops up all around the pitch, and is thus of special interest for the three aforementioned clubs. He could be a good fit in English football, which has put Everton and West Ham United on alert.

West Ham are again facing the prospect of losing Declan Rice this summer, while Mark Noble is all set to hang up his boots at the end of the season. With Alex Kral unlikely to be signed on a permanent deal after an underwhelming loan spell, the Hammers need to add at least one new midfielder to ensure enough depth in the ranks, making Svanberg a viable option.

Everton are having a nightmare of a season and are flirting with relegation. Currently 17th in the league, just three points ahead of 18th-placed Watford, avoiding the drop is their top priority. But the Toffees are hopeful of securing safety and are already preparing for a busy summer to get their squad in shape for the upcoming season.

Should he manages to keep the club afloat, Frank Lampard will need reinforcements in the summer to reinstate Everton to the upper echelons of the league. With Allan expected to leave in the summer and the likes of Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Dele Alli not clicking, a new midfielder will be a key necessity.

Whether Svanberg moves to the Premier League or chooses Milan as his next destination remains to be seen. As of now, a 23-year-old midfielder is a man in demand heading into the transfer window.
