PSG have reportedly launched a pursuit to sign Paul Pogba by submitting a formal offer as he looks set to quit Manchester United for free this summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly tabled an offer to land Paul Pogba as a free agent, albeit on less favourable wages than what Manchester United offered in their final attempt to persuade the midfielder to stay at the club.

The 2018 World Cup winner looks set to be on his way out of Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the current Premier League season. The Red Devils have been locked in contract talks with the former Juventus ace throughout the campaign, but negotiations have stalled, and the player has been described as ‘effectively gone’ according to close dressing room sources as he approaches the final two months of his deal.

The report also mentions that the club have already started to plan for life without the French midfield maestro, as seen by their strong pursuit of Pogba’s compatriot Aurelien Tchouameni. This might just be another hint that Pogba’s time at Old Trafford has come to an end after six unsuccessful years back at the club.

The Frenchman was tipped for greatness when he made the blockbuster return to Manchester United for a then-world record transfer from Juventus back in 2016. Now into his sixth season at Old Trafford, the Frenchman has endured a topsy-turvy ride for the Premier League heavyweights and recently expressed his displeasure over winning just two trophies.

Even those bits of silverware were the League Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho in Pogba’s spectacular debut 2016/17 season. While there is no debating over his enormous talent, he has lacked consistency throughout his tenure. He also remains a figure of constant controversy, not helped by his outspoken agent Mino Raiola.

To date, Pogba has made 230 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 39 goals and assisting 51 more across all competitions in the process. Manchester United and Pogba are heading for another fruitless season after being knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid last month.

And though the Manchester United midfielder has remained coy over his future, revealing nothing, it is evident from his performances and attitude that the Frenchman sees his future elsewhere. There appears to be no shortage of admirers for Pogba, with elite powerhouses Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid all considering a move for the French international.

But PSG appear to be one of the front-runners in the race for Pogba’s signature, having already approached him with a deal to lure him back to his homeland. And while PSG’s deep pockets mean they should be able to offer the Manchester United contract rebel lucrative terms, the report claims that the first offer is worth less than the package United had put in front of Pogba.

With Kylian Mbappe set to move to Real Madrid, the PSG hierarchy could do well by bringing in another French superstar in Paul Pogba on a Bosman move to appease the fanbase. As far as the player is concerned, Pogba prefers a return to his former club Juventus, but the Serie A giants cannot afford his wages, leaving PSG in pole position to secure the French international’s services.
